Birthday Doings

My birthday present from KB came unexpectedly early in the week, so this

was a marvelous surprise.

KB picked up a set of

Japanese masking tapes at the Cooper Hewitt and used them to frame the card. I love it! (And I get to add the rest of the tape to my craft supply hoarde.)

Of whoopie pies and office things

Lunch today was Le Relais de Venise, where Ms. F and I go when we're (i) really really hungry, (ii) really really grumpy, or (iii) really really want to eat fries covered in mysterious French sauce. Today I was (ii) while Ms. F was (iii). There was a mustard pot on our table today, which contained excellent mustard. Excellent on the fries, excellent on the steak. We have never been given the mustard pot before, which (we now realize) is a tragedy. The mustard made me happy.

Ms. F and I refer to Le Relais de Venise as "Steak Frites." We have our own names for pretty much every restaurant we go to. Le Pain Quotidien is "Le Petit Bonbon" or "PQ." Katsuhama is "Katsu" and Hawaiian Island Grill is "That Place With Really Good Empanadas."

After lunch, we saw the Street Sweets Truck and were drawn by the powerful magnetism emitted by whoopie pies. We each got a pumpkin whoopie pie.

See?

Then, we returned to the office. I asked Ms. F to take a photo of her whoopie pie so I could post it here. She sent me the one above. Then she sent me

Followed by

And then

And finally

Definitely less grumpy now.

Inspiration

Brooklyn Botanic and Environs

The world is such a beautiful place.

It left a lump

. . . the wooden horse that Zee accidentally bopped me on the eyebrow with today when we were playing Put Things on Your Head. (Ever since I saw the trailer for Babies and the baby from Namibia, I've been obsessed with Zee walking with things balanced on her head.)

. . . the cheeseburger with fries we got at Flatbush Farm "Barn" for lunch. I don't think I'll be hungry for days. (Full disclosure: I couldn't resist buying two Jamaican patties on the walk to the restaurant, and eating both in about 2 minutes.)

. . . the beauty of Zee yelling, "DAAAAAD!" when looking for KB while we were at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden today.

. . . the crazy madness of running into someone I did a craft swap with five years ago at Almondine. We had never met in person, and neither of us lived in New York at the time.

Louisiana

Where baby-led weaning leads:

All sorts of good places.

Lovely Lovely Central Park

It was gloomy today, so we thought we would have a museum day. But, on the way to breakfast, the train ran express to 59th Street, and we found ourselves at the edge of the park. We started walking.

And didn't stop until we were back at 187th Street.
